Bread

I am not normally the bread maker of the family but with our usual family bread maker "out of pocket" for an extended period of time B#3 and I have stepped up to the plate. It was kind of funny that I asked a friend for the recipe of some rolls that she brought on Thanksgiving and she laughed and told me it was my recipe from days gone by. So I am using a new old recipe for our bread and so far so good. Even B#5 was excited when he heard I was making bread today.

Now I am working on reading through one of her gardening books. I have relied on her for so long to help me with the outside work that now that she is off on an adventure I am having to learn some things that I thought I was too old to learn...

Know anything about bees???

Merry Christmas!

We hope you all had a great Christmas! It definitely didn't feel like Christmas here, at least to me. I have been trying to decide if it is because we had 6 less days between Thanksgiving and Christmas or if it is because we were missing three of our loved ones this year. B#1 and his wife weren't here and B#2 is down at my parents in MS spending Christmas with them. In any case it was strange. But as it is with all big families, there is never a quiet moment so we still had a good time. Its funny but DH and I are usually up before the children on Christmas so once we were up we started waking up the ones who weren't up yet.

You might think with 9 children still at home that Christmas must be mass chaos but we do try to keep things toned down. One thing that helps with that is that we do not go hog wild with gifts for the children. We typically stick to our usual plan of Something to Read, Something to Wear and Something to Share. Although for my little ones who can't read yet we do buy them one toy item instead of a book. Several of the received new rain boots this year and others got some much needed clothes or jackets. The something to share may be a game, or movies or sometimes a big item.

One fun item that was received by B#9 from his Secret Sibling was this minion. We are big Despicable Me fans around here and these pudgy little things remind us of our pudgy little B#9 so it was a fun gift to get. Everyone likes him.

We do things a bit differently around here than most people...our Christmas dinner is always pizza( a tradition started several years back when Auntie M came for Christmas). We love that it is a relaxing day for us all with a minimal amount of clean-up. We always start the morning off with canned cinnamon rolls. I love the orange ones!
We finished up the day with our birthday cake for Jesus!

B#10 got some fun toys from his Mamaw and Papaw to chew on.

Christmas Happenings around here

Well my Christmas crafts didn't go quite as planned but I still enjoyed making a few things this year as I had time and I have enjoyed doing our "Christmas Calendar" that I made. The children have enjoyed pulling a new tag out each day to see what we were going to do that day. I will admit to being very unorganized about it all, despite making a list in the beginning. Most mornings found me scrambling to write something on the tag and sometimes even trying to figure out what we were going to do that day. But all in all it has gone well.  Some of the things we have done are....

Make ornaments to feed the birds

Celebrate St. Nicholas Day by putting our shoes by the fireplace for treats

Make yummy sugar cookies

Make baking soda dough ornaments

                                                                 Make Christmas trees

Make Goody plates to share with our gas attendants, Dr.'s office and hospital staff

And make these cute animal pictures with little ones hand prints.

I was talking with the children today about how Christmas presents are a picture of God's Grace....we don't deserve them(as we usually haven't been good all year) but we give gifts out of love. Just as He gives Grace to us, free and unconditional. All we have to do is accept His free gift to us, with joy just as we accept gifts from our family.

Merry Christmas to you all and we pray that if you have never accepted the free gift of forgiveness and eternal life that is offered to you through the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that this will be the year that you accept the reason for the season.

Ear Tubes

Well we fought it for 2 long years and lots of "ear-rational" behavior but we finally decided that it was time to have tubes put in B#8's ears. We talked about lots of different things...waiting till he grew out of it, taking him off of dairy products, taking him to a naturopath to strengthen his immune system in hopes that he wouldn't get the colds that turn in to an ear infection every time. But in the end we hated seeing him go through his day not hearing everything as well as he could be. So yesterday he had surgery to have tubes put in his ears and you know what....it wasn't the traumatic thing I was so afraid it would be.

He was a little clingy and unsure once he realized that he would have to shed his clothes and wear hospital duds but the hospital staff was amazing. They were super kind and gentle and each person who would be taking care of him in the OR came to the room to talk to us and him. I really think that helped him once he had to leave us. Honestly that was one of the parts I was dreading the most, having to see him leave with someone I didn't know. But they let dad carry him down to the OR doors and he was even able to take "Chewcy", his special blankie in with him. He went to the OR nurse without any problems and they all said how wonderfully he did. No crying, he just looked around at them and then drifted off to sleep.

His recovery has been great, no problems there and most of all, he is hearing great. He is such a strong little guy and hasn't even needed any pain meds.

Christmas

I am not a crafty person, although I do wish I was. But I do have a hankering to do some crafting around this time of year. Pinterest is a great place to find ideas along with your favorite blogs. Here are a few things I am contemplating...

This one is from my favorite blogger, Joy at artfulhomemaking. You can go HERE if you would like to see how she made this beautiful plate for next to nothing. She also has some other great printables as well. I used THIS printable on some brown paper colored cardstock and put it in a black frame. Such an easy and beautiful way to add Scripture to your home.

For our Advent calendar this year I am making THIS. I will modify it though and just use posterboard for the backing instead of fabric. I don't mind if it isn't reusable since I enjoy finding something different each year.

I also picked up three fake silver platters from the Dollar Tree to make THIS. I just love anything that is chalkboard. I got a can of chalkboard paint for my birthday that I have been trying to find projects for.

Anyway, those are a few projects I am hoping to work on and that is about all that baby is going to let me write.

Happy Christmas Crafting!

Before Five in a Row

Yes, the school year has been in full swing for quite some time and yes I did buy a whole new curriculum for my Kindergartener at the beginning of the year and yes I started something else in the middle of the school year. I think I drive my husband crazy but hopefully for the rest of this year I am set on one thing. As I was "schooling" with him I just felt that we were just doing things for the sake of doing things and he didn't seem to be retaining much of it. I really just wanted to be sitting on the floor reading to all of my little ones.

Then I read a post at one of my favorite blogs, Artful Homemaking. She had a post on the fun they were having using "Before Five in a Row". It had all of the elements that I wanted to do with the children...reading, art, and fun. Then I remembered, "I have the teacher book for that".  So we are now using a fun curriculum, if you want to call it that.

Basically we read the same children's book for five days in a row and do some fun, learning activities to reinforce our reading. Our first book was "Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?"

Our first activity was dressing Jesse Bear.

B#8 wasn't really he wanted anything to do with it all but once he saw the book he was excited to read it. Then when I told him we were going to the table to do an activity he politely declined. Once he saw the activity he jumped on board and wanted to keep dressing more bears.

We are having fun with it and I love how flexible it is. I just find activities on the internet that I want to do and print them out or prepare them.

Two Book Reviews

Let me just start out by saying that I am not a gifted writer who can write enthralling book reviews but I do love books and reading and I also would love to help myself and my children to better memorize God's Word. So when Jenn at The Purposeful Mom offered to let readers have a free ebook in exchange for a book review on their blog, I jumped at the chance. Her ebook is called "Hiding God's Word in My Heart". Her book is an easy read, only 20 pages, not too overwhelming, with no incrimination if you aren't memorizing God's word with your children but with encouragement and help to jump in and get memorizing. Included in her book are instructions for using the book, ideas for teaching Scripture to baby on up, list of songs and other go-alongs for learning Scripture, specific songs for verses in "God's Word in My Heart" and printable memory verses. I like the ABC verses as that is where I am at with my Preschooler and soon-to-be Kindergartener. We also enjoyed starting the memory verse caterpillar that she mentions making, although we didn't get very far with it because a certain small person in our house tore some body parts off of it. Maybe we will try again once we start back to school. I also have older children at home and while this book didn't provide what I need to really help my older children, I do think it had some fun ideas for little guys and it is helpful that she has done the leg work for you in providing the verses and printables to make getting started very easy. Jenn has graciously offered to let me do a giveaway of a free copy of her book in which ever Bible version you prefer. Now I am not a big-time blogger so I don't really know much about doing a give-away but if you are interested, just leave me a comment and in a week or so I will do the old fashioned "pull the name out of a hat" version of a drawing. If you don't have little ones at home, feel free to enter so you can give your copy to a friend with littles or maybe grandchildren.

The second book I want to "review" isn't necessarily a review and I am not even finished reading it yet, but I am loving what I am reading so I wanted to let you all know about it. It is called " Three Decades of Fertility". It is written by 10 ( I believe) different ladies on how they chose to allow the Lord to be in control of their fertility and the struggles and blessings that have come with that. I have found it to be a very encouraging book in many ways. I have only read from three of the ladies so far but my favorite for now is Natalie Klejwa's testimony.  I love this bit from her:

"The key to a healthy family and healthy relationships, I'm convinced, is humility . It is the willingness to admit sin, repent of it and ask for forgiveness. The families I know that practice this are just like every other family in that they sin against one another.  But they maintain emotional and relational health because the individual members grieve over their sin, saying they are sorry and asking for forgiveness.
"The families that struggle are the ones that have difficulty admitting sin.  IF the parents are prideful and refuse to admit wrongdoing, blaming other family members or making excuses for the ways they hurt others, the family as a whole will suffer untold ways.  So let me be clear. Healthy families are not sinless.  All families sin and they do it everyday in numerous ways. We can make a difference for eternity by simply humbling ourselves before our family members and learning the art of saying sorry and asking forgiveness."

Anyway, I am far from being finished with the book but wanted to put in a plug for it if you are interested. You can find it HERE at the Visionary Womanhood website.

Just Staying Busy

We are still here. Just staying busy with new baby, not getting much sleep, preparing for Mamaw and my sweet daughter-in-law to come for a visit tomorrow. No son visiting with her though:(. Hopefully next time. Enjoying summer but getting ready for school to start back up. Spending my free time (what little there is) researching curriculum choices for two of my little guys. How about you? What occupies your summer days?

Oh, Ouch!

I read THIS  post just now and knew I had to blog about it in case someone else struggles with this like I do... I printed it out and will add it to my "mommy" binder where I keep all the articles that I want to keep and reread.

Lavender and a Sweet Baby!

I love lavender! Is there any better smell than lavender? Well ok, coffee and a sweet new baby rank up there as well. But I do love the smell of lavender. I have quite a few lavender plants and it was time to harvest them if we wanted to dry them and use the buds for anything so B#2 set out to harvest them and then she painstakingly bunched, tied and hung them for me.

And here is the sweet baby...I think he is about a week old in this picture. I would post more pictures of him but I have to be careful about posting pictures that I want to keep as sometimes they disappear from my camera card after I have used them in a blog post.

The Plans of a man's heart

I was scrolling through the blog just now and saw the verse at the bottom that I have had there forever, thinking I would change it pretty often. As I read it again it got me to thinking about B#11's birth. I spent a good portion of my pregnancy reading about natural childbirth and birth after a C-section. DH and I read about birthing without pain meds. But in the end things didn't go as I had planned. Am I disappointed??? I am not sure I can answer that. We both said all along that the most important thing was a healthy baby and healthy mama. We have both. Was my birth experience what I had hoped it would be? Nope. But there are little things that came up during the baby's C-section delivery that made me think that this way was the better way. The Lord is in control and many are the plan's of a man's heart but it is the counsel of the Lord that will stand.

Baby #11 Arrives

Just a very quick post from the hospital to let you know about the arrival of baby Aaron Thomas.

I went in for my usual twice weekly prenatal appointment and non-stress test and unfortunately my blood pressure was up too high for my OB's comfort. I was given a couple of choices and since DH and I had already discussed what we would choose if we were confronted with these options I knew what we were supposed to do. I was trying for a VBAC since B#10's birth was an emergency C-section but that wasn't what the Lord had in store for us this time. We chose to have a repeat C-section so that we could stay near our children and with our regular OB rather than have to drive about an hour away and be induced with Dr.s we had never met. The Lord gave me a peace about this decision and I feel like I handled the C-section pretty well for someone who can tend toward panicking. Everything went well and little Aaron was born safely, weighing in at 6lbs 13 oz. All of the siblings(except big brother #1) were able to come and see him shortly after his birth. We are just hanging out in the hospital for another day to recover more from the delivery then we will all be home together again. If you want to see some more great photos of baby go to B#4's blog HERE.

We Could Be a Magic Eraser Commercial

Little Miss B#9 is somewhat of an artist in our family. Whether that is a tattoo artist or a graffiti artist we aren't real sure...early in the day yesterday she came down stairs with purple permanent marker all over her hands and arms. Then in the afternoon she found a dry erase marker and apparently wasn't sure where the dry erase board ended and the wall began so this was what we all walked into the dining room to see...

Praise the Lord for Magic Erasers from Walmart. Cleaning it up took as little time for me as it took her to make the mess and I didn't have to paint the wall. What do you think? Could we pass for a Magic Eraser commercial?

CPS Still in Charge After Hearing on Gestapo Style Baby Snatching

baby sammyThe right of parents to determine the course of medical treatment for their children has suffered yet another slap in the face.
On April 29, 2013, a hearing took place regarding theGestapo style abduction by Child Protective Services of 5 month old baby Sammy after his parents, Alex and Anna Nikolayev, took him out of Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento.
They left Sutter Memorial in order to seek a second opinion at Kaiser Permanente, a rival hospital, for Sammy’s flu-like symptoms.

Anna and Alex sought medical treatment at Kaiser because they were extremely concerned about the quality of care baby Sammy was receiving at Sutter Memorial.
When doctors at Sutter Memorial began discussing the possibility of heart surgery for the infant, the alarmed parents took the baby and left as the medical staff would not discharge Sammy so they could seek another opinion regarding the child’s heart murmur.
“If we got the one mistake after another, I don’t want to have my baby have surgery in the hospital where I don’t feel safe,” Anna said.
She added, ”We went from one hospital to another. We just wanted to be safe, that he is in good hands.”
While at the second hospital, medical staff determined Sammy was fine. The attending doctor at Kaiser said in a written statement, “I do not have concern for the safety of the child at home with his parents.”
Despite the all clear from the medical staff at Kaiser, CPS escorted by armed police showed up at the Nikolayev’s home the next day and took baby Sammy in outrageous and dramatic fashion.
Anna’s home video of the incident shows police entering the home.
“I’m going to grab your baby, and don’t resist, and don’t fight me ok?” a Sacramento police officer is heard saying in the video.
Prior to abducting the baby without so much as a warrant, Alex was slammed against a wall, pushed to the ground and his house keys forcibly removed from him after meeting with officers outside.
Worst of all, after taking the baby, CPS returned the child to the protective custody of the exact same hospital the parents had originally fled to seek a second medical opinion – Sutter Memorial – for wanting to perform unnecessary open heart surgery on the infant.

Court Hearing a Slap in the Face to Parent Rights

Alex and AnnaAt a hearing on the matter, Sacramento Superior Court Judge Paul Seave determined that custody should be immediately returned to the parents.
The Nikolayevs can now see Sammy whenever they want. They also supposedly now have full control over the child’s medical decisions.
In reality, however, the Nikolayevs are still under the thumb of CPS and their rights as parents continue to be violated.
Rather than the child returning home where the parents would continue under the care of medical staff at Kaiser Permanente which was their original choice, baby Sammy was transferred by court order to yet a third hospital – Stanford Medical Center.
The judge also ruled that Anna and Alex must follow all medical advice from now on, including not taking their child from Stanford Medical Center without proper discharge.
Why are Anna and Alex being forced to follow the medical advice of Stanford Medical Center and not the medical staff at Kaiser Permanente who determined the child was safe at home for the time being?
Why is this child still in the hospital and not at home and under the supervision of the medical staff the parents originally chose?
Most alarming, Child Protective Services is still involved with this case even after its Gestapo style abduction of the child as captured on home video.
While Sammy will be returned to the custody of his parents upon discharge from Stanford Medical Center, CPS will continue to monitor the situation with regular home visits by a social worker.
Why is CPS being permitted by the court to monitor this child when the parents did nothing wrong?
Inexplicably, Alex and Anna are still vulnerable to future action by CPS for the “crime” of seeking the medical care for Sammy that they saw fit.
Welcome to Soviet Amerika comrades.

A Good Example of Why We Need a Parental Rights Amendment

ParentalRights.org logo

April 30, 2013
Second Opinion? We're Taking Your Child
One would think having the approval of a doctor and even clearance from the local police would be enough to protect a parent from having their baby taken away over cries of “medical neglect.” In this case, one would be wrong.

Anna and Alex Nikolayev of Sacramento lost custody of their 5-month-old son last week when they decided to seek a second opinion before having the baby undergo heart surgery. Though a second doctor found it safe to release the boy into their custody, and though an investigating officer also cleared the family to go home, the child was taken the next day.

Timeline of Events
Little Sammy has had a heart murmur since birth, which the parents have been closely monitoring along with a doctor at Sutter Memorial Hospital. So when Sammy developed flu-like symptoms a couple of weeks ago, his parents took him to Sutter again as a precaution. During his stay, a couple of incidents occurred that concerned the parents (such as administrating an anti-biotic to fight his virus). So when Sammy was put in the pediatric intensive care and talk turned to heart surgery, the parents wanted a second opinion.

Unable to secure release from the doctors at Sutter Memorial, the parents took Sammy from the hospital anyway – prompting an automatic call to Child Protective Services and the Sacramento Police – and drove straight to neighboring Kaiser-Permanente Hospital.

Doctors there determined that Sammy was healthy enough to go home with his parents. The doctor noted in his report that he saw no cause for concern in leaving Sammy in Anna and Alex’s care. (Corrective heart surgery is in Sammy’s future; the parents do not dispute this fact.)

Police met the family at Kaiser, checked out the smiling baby, read the doctor’s report, and agreed that Sammy was in no danger. The Nikolayev family was free to go.

That was April 23, 2013. The following day, a CPS worker and Sacramento Police arrived at the family’s home and removed the baby, carrying him back to Sutter Memorial, where he was held in “protective custody.” Though the parents got to visit Sammy to feed him three times a day for one supervised hour, they had to wait until Monday for a hearing.

By then, coverage had gone international, with media outlets in Germany and in the family’s native Russia paying close attention. Ominously, local ABC station KXTV reports, “CPS said they were overwhelmed with the amount of attention by the media into the case, and could therefore take longer than usual to render a decision on Sammy's fate.” (emphasis added)

How Would the PRA Help?
Traditionally, the Supreme Court has recognized the “fundamental liberty interest of natural parents in the care, custody, and management of their child,” found in the Fourteenth Amendment’s “Due Process” clause. Santosky v. Kramer, 455 U.S. 745 (1982) This protection, however, has been lost on Sacramento CPS. It is also being weakened through judicial erosion in the courts.

Passage of the Parental Rights Amendment will provide parents an explicit constitutional protection; otherwise, they’ll have to rely on the courts, hoping they will continue to interpret the Fourteenth Amendment as they traditionally have (but increasingly no longer do). And the PRA will allow organizations like CPS to know exactly what the rules are that they must follow.

The liberty of parents to direct the upbringing, education, and care of their child is a fundamental right. Neither the United States nor any State shall infringe this right without demonstrating that its governmental interest as applied to the person is of the highest order and not otherwise served.

These two sentences would make clear that CPS cannot take a child away unless it is prepared to prove that the child was in danger caused by abuse or neglect. In this case, it would increase the chances that common sense would prevail and baby Sammy would have gotten to stay home safe and sound with his mom and dad.

Action Items
Yesterday the county and the family's lawyers reached an agreement to return Sammy to his parents' care, but with stipulations limiting their choices in medical treatment. (See video here.) CPS will continue to be a part of Sammy's life at least until the next hearing, set for May 28. While we rejoice in the reunification of this family, we grieve over the unnecessary loss of liberty this couple has suffered for no reason. We must make sure such abuses do not continue unchecked. Here is how you can help:

1. Share this email and the story of Sammy with everyone you know. Encourage them to support the Parental Rights Amendment and to sign on here.

2. Donate to support ParentalRights.org as we fight to protect the rights of parents like Anna and Alex. Help us make stories like Sammy’s a thing of the past.

3. Stay vigilant. Word is that the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will be back in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee this month. Watch for alerts letting you know when and how to focus your energies on stopping that dangerous treaty. Click here for the current appeal to call your senators today.

Sincerely,

What Have I Been Up to?

I have had it on my mind to blog alot sooner than this but the days just get away from me. Even more so lately than usual. Since being told I have Gestational Diabetes my days consist of trying to decide the right things to eat, reading up on the issue, trying to remember to check my blood sugar two hours after each meal and walking everyday. All of that on top of the average day of homeschooling and dealing with toddlers, oh yeah, and teenagers...

I borrowed this book from a friend, which I have been reading, reading, reading, just hoping to find some ideas of things to eat. I didn't exactly expect to like it but it is actually a good book. I especially like the first several chapters. I feel like the authors do a great job at explaining how eating too many carbohdrates affects our bodies. The whole book is about 600 pages with a major part of it being recipes. I don't know that I would make many of the recipes but seeing some ideas of what to eat was helpful.

I did, however, find this yummy recipe for a 1 minute cake in a mug. I have made it entirely too many times... Made with the ingredients they suggest it has no carbs and could be classified as a healthy cake. I must admit that I add 1/8 cup of chocolate chips because it makes the cake richer and supposedly doesn't affect the carbohydrate count as it keeps it under a 5. I thought I would give you the recipe along with some substitutions I used when I made it tonight, which still kept me below the 15-30 carbs I am limited to on my snacks. Actually it was so rich tonight that I only ate half and gave the other half to B#4.

Whisk 1 egg in a coffee cup
Stir in 2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3-4 tsps Stevia (I used 3tsp sugar tonight)
a splash of vanilla
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 Tablespoon water
1 Tablespoon coconut oil(I used 1 T real butter tonight)
and I personally add in 1/8 c. or less of chocolate chips
Stir all well and microwave for 1 minute.
I like to let mine cool for awhile on a plate before enjoying.

So besides life in general, I have also been trying to get a baby blanket knitted for baby before my due date. I think I am getting somewhere but I do still have a ways to go. This is one of my favorite baby blankets as I think it makes a nice weight to cover baby in the crib. I would prefer it to stay as a crib blanket but B#10 has claimed his as his favorite "blankie" that has to go everywhere with him. It is a bit heavy for that so for this baby I decided to try to make it a bit smaller. Not sure how well that will turn out since I am not an experienced knitter but we shall see.

Well that is life of late. Now I think I better put B#10 to bed and get back to the knitting!

Sorry!

I know I haven't posted since Easter...sorry. Life has been amazingly busy lately. Monday I had two appointments. One for another ultrasound of baby and one was just a regular OB appt. We got some pretty good pics of baby although my little point and shoot camera just doesn't do them justice as I attempt to take pictures of the pictures:). But you can clearly see baby in them so I will go ahead and show one. We decided we think it looks like a boy, but time will tell...He or she now weighs in at a whopping 1lb 15 oz.

Then at my OB appt. it was confirmed that I did indeed fail one portion of the Glucose Tolerance Test so I had to have an appt. with a Dietician on Wednesday. I now have to watch my carbs carefully and check my blood sugar 4 times a day.

But on the fun side of things, the weather here was very nice for a few days and we even broke out the shorts...at least the kids did. Some of the "biggers" went hiking on Tuesday near the coast but I don't have any pics of that. Maybe B#4 will post some on her blog for you all to see. The definitely got some great photos.

He's so cute in his shorts...they make him look pretty short!

And we have had lots and lots of daffodils around here.

Sunday Scripture

Happy Resurrection Day to you all!

He is Risen!
He is Risen Indeed!

Praying you all had a wonderful day, remembering the sacrifice that Jesus made for you and for me and the Victory over death that His resurrection gives us!

A Day at the Zoo, a Pinterest recipe and a Birthday

For Christmas the grandparents gave us a zoo membership. Memberships are always such a great idea since they last all year long and give us something to do as a family when we are wanting to do something as a family. B#1 and his wife are here for a visit so we thought this would be a great time to go. It was fun, but we didn't take into account Spring Break so it was quite busy.

It was so great to have two more hands to add to our helpers so we could keep up with the little ones while we were there. B#9 just loved having her "Bubby" push her through the zoo.

After smelling the Elephant ears at the zoo, knowing how expensive it would be for all of us, we decided to make some of our own when we got home using a Pinterest recipe. They were actually funnel cakes, but either way they were yummy.

Even B#8 ate some. He is a picky eater so we never know what he will like and what he won't.

We decided to celebrate B#1's birthday while he was here even though it isn't for about 10 days or so. He is a BIG 22! They do grow up:).

Sunday Scripture

Well I actually managed to sit through church today. Dad kept the little ones home in hopes that no one will get sick this week. B#1 and his wife are coming for a visit and we want to be healthy.

What stood out to me today at church was actually a hymn so I thought I would post the words to the hymn today. Read the verses carefully, especially with Easter being next week. If you don't know Jesus as your personal Savior then the words will be especially meaningful for you.

There's Room At the Cross for You

The cross upon which Jesus died
Is a shelter in which we can hide
And its grace so free is sufficient for me
And deep is its fountain as wide as the sea.

Chorus
There's room at the cross for you
There's room at the cross for you
Though millions have come, there's still room for one
Yes there's room at the cross for you.

Though millions have found him a friend
And have turned from the sins they have sinned
The Savior still waits to open the gates
And welcome a sinner before it's too late.

Chorus

The hand of my Savior is strong
And the love of my Savior is long
Through sunshine or rain, through loss or in gain,
The blood flows from Calvary to cleanse every stain.

Chorus

I tried to find a link so you could hear it if you wanted but being the technologically challenged person that I am, I gave up.

Easter

A few things we have been doing for Easter...

                                                     Making our Resurrection Garden

                                                        It is starting to sprout

We made these yummy empty tomb snacks.

Jesus paid our debt in full.

For Easter week, starting tomorrow, which is Palm Sunday we will be reading through the Easter story in the Bible. Instead of doing an Easter basket I planned out some things we will do each day after we read.
Sunday we will read about Palm Sunday. Palms make me think of coconuts so I bought Almond Joy and Mounds candies for the kids.
Monday we will be reading the Scripture where Jesus talks about the parable of the Fig Tree so I bought Fig Newtons(YUM).
Tuesday we will be reading about Judas agreeing to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver so we will have chocolate coins.
Wednesday we will be reading about the Last Supper so we will have oyster crackers(mini-saltines) and grape juice.
Thursday will be the betrayal in the Garden by Judas, where he kisses Jesus so I will give the kids Hershey Kisses.
On Friday we will be reading about the crucifixion and making a crown of thorns out of pretzel sticks and chocolate, also we will make our Resurrection Rolls which is a tradition. If you have never made them you really should try them. They are so yummy. You can find the directions HERE if you are interested.
On Saturday we will be reading about the soldiers securing the tomb with a stone. We found some candy rocks in the bulk section at the grocery store. It really looks like little rocks. Who knows how it will taste though.
Sunday will be church and a big meal although I don't know what we are having yet. Probably ham, which somehow seems wrong, since Jesus wouldn't eat pork but that just seems like what we usually do.

How about you? What plans do you have for Easter?
